International Pollinator Research

March 02, 2018

A study by Vicky Wilkins funded by the Winston Churchhill Memorial Trust on transferring pollinator conservation innovation from the United States to Great Britian was recently published here. This well researched policy-focused study includes information that Ms. Wilkins gathered from a site visit to Hedgerows Farms and interviews with Hedgerow Farms staff in 2017. The report describes Hedgerow Farms as an inspirational company that specializes in suppling native local ecotype seed. It also illuminates the important role that native seed suppliers like Hedgerow Farms play in facilitating pollinator conservation. The milkweed trial currently underway at Hedgerow Farms is also mentioned, among others. Find us on page 25 and in the acknowledgements on page 42. Enjoy!

Save the Date for CNGA's 11th Annual Field Day At Hedgerow Farms

April 20, 2017

CNGA 11th Annual Field Day at Hedgerow Farms is scheduled for Friday, April 20, 2018. Don't miss this great opportunity for practical hands-on learning and mingling with other grassland experts and enthusiasts. We will be sending out more information soon.

Native Grass Straw Now Available

August 15, 2017

Hedgerow Farms is currently in the process of baling our native grass straw from our 2017 harvest. We are pleased to offer native grass straw for erosion control, mulching and for habitat restoration projects. Use of certified native grass straw helps to minimize the potential spread of weeds that can accompany straw derived from traditional agricultural crops. We bale our cleanest fields and our straw is certified noxious weed free by the Yolo County Agricultural Commissioner. The straw generally contains native seeds but not enough to establish robust stands of native grasses. Thus, native grass straw should be used in combination with native grass seeding.

Please call Windmill Feed directly at (530) 666-7088 for pricing and availability. Windmill Feed is open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and on Saturdays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
